Summary: | The project accomplished design aids for flexural members in supplement to those provided in the 9th edition of the AISC ASD Manual (AISCM). Although the AISC manual contains design aids for beams, these design aids are limited to certain I-shapes and channel sections only. Because of this insufficiency, the project accomplished design aids for some sections that are furnished in the manuals' list of sections but are not covered in their design aids.
The accomplished design aids are the Allowable Stress Design Selection Table and the Allowable Uniform Load Table. The former is generally used in selecting the flexural members on the basis of allowable bending stress. The tables, catalogued per section, are arranged in such a way that the selection table highlights the most economical one. The latter is comprised of tables that will yield the total allowable uniformly distributed load it can carry. It also contains data pertinent for shear design and deflection. These design aids, as much as possible, are patterned after that of the AISCM. However, slight modifications are made on the table due to varying specifications on each section. |
