What would happen when you put two teenagers of the opposite sex alone together in a room? This was the initial thought that came as a simple idea for a one-room story, but this opened up numerous innocent and risque scenarios that could possibly happen to the two individuals. Taking even more inspiration from a hotel room 'do not disturb sign, the normal situation peaked curiosity, as the outcomes should be endless with the consideration of who the two teenagers would be. Even if anything could possibly happen, the thought of a boy and a girl falling intro attraction and hooking up is almost instantly assumed-- why is this so? Well, the proponents behind this short feature film, Do Not Disturb, seek to tackle this scenario and experiment with how love and attraction can develop through the act of conversing. Love, sex, attraction, and the context of conservatism in the Philippines there is a lot to be said about these topics in present day. Depending on which generation these topics are presented to, the ideologies from a parent and their own children would most likely be different (Lacson et al., Upadhyay). But generalizing an entire generation would not be an ideal case, as an individual morals and thought process is developed by many factors: such as their parents upbringing, the circle of friends, and the media and experiences they consume. Teenagers nowadays, contrary to what most people would think about in the modern day and age of flings, one night stands and online dating apps, is that these teenagers arent exactly losing their virginities as early as most of the older generations, whom have mostly lost their virginity at an early age. In fact, according to the study of more than 16,000 people, one in eight people are still virgins at the age of 26 (Petter, 2018). There is another study involving social media and the current generation, where they would view social media as a place for meaningful interactions, rather in person, as they feel more emotionally and socially connected compared to real world interactions (Miller et al., Nicolescu). This, in turn show how limited real life interactions can be with one another, so the movie can highlight the differences of interactions in the digital age. What the proponents wanted to show with this short film is that these stereotypes are want to be broken, with the usual stereotype of how this sort of scenario would end up with two teenagers engaging in possible acts of lewdness or any form of intimacy. Do not disturb is a short feature film that presents two teenagers that break the stereotypical perception of pairing up to two individuals in an intimate space. The short feature focuses on how young peoples perception of each other can develop within only a short amount of time spent together at a party. This short feature aims to showcase the changing lifestyles of young people in our generation today, as well as the perception of the parents of teenagers who are presented with the concept of attraction. Despite only having a limited amount of time spent with each other, this short film will show that you do not need the luxury of time for big things to happen.
