The conceptual frame work of this study consists in understanding the two terms epistemology and phenomenography in relation to teaching. Epistemology as a study of knowledge asserts that the knowledge of expert teachers with their rich experience and personal and practical belief in their field of teaching remain a source of knowledge. Phenomenography is a recent qualitative research study dealing with the way qualitatively different ways or variations people perceive experience and conceptualize reality. In this study the experiences and understandings of the award winning teachers remain the source of qualitatively different ways of perceiving the teaching phenomenon and source of knowledge on teaching. So from the interviewed data of 29 outstanding teachers, the study analyzes the experiences and understandings of the outstanding teachers, identifies the categories, defines concept of effective teaching framework and establishes implications on instructional leadership and academic management. The analysis has identified teacher dimension, nature dimension, learner dimension and contextual dimension as the four major categories influencing effective teaching. These dimensions with their subcategories and their various aspects are explained and validated with the literature on teaching in order to bring about the framework for effective teaching. This was followed by establishing implications for the educational leadership and management from the analysis of the outstanding teachers experiences and understandings. 2007-04-01T07:00:00Z text application/pdf https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/etd_doctoral/192 https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/context/etd_doctoral/article/1191/viewcontent/CDTG004403_P.pdf Dissertations English Animo Repository Effective teaching--India Education, higher--India Private school--India Secondary school teachers--India High school teachers--India Secondary Education
