This study aimed to facilitate changes in students conceptions of the Respiratory System through the Learner-Centered Learning Environment Module among the grade five students of De La Salle Santiago Zobel School. This study was conducted during the first term of the school year 2009-2010 with 136 students. Four heterogeneously intact classes in grade five were chosen through convenience sampling technique. The exploratory-descriptive design was utilized in this study where both the quantitative and qualitative data were obtained from varied instruments like Learning Styles Questionnaire (Felder and Soloman, 1994), Concept Test on Respiratory System, and Students Assessment of the Learning Process (SALP), interviews and journals. It also involved pretesting and posttesting of the students knowledge of the subject matter. A 23-item researcher-developed Concept Test on Respiratory System with reliability coefficient of 0.6 (Cronbach alpha value), and video coverage were employed to further ascertain students engagement in the learning process. The CTRS and LCLE Module were evaluated and validated by content experts. Furthermore, classroom observation looked into the teachers teaching and students engagement in the learning process. Results revealed that majority of the students had significant change in their conceptions after the implementation of the LCLE Module. Students Assessment of the Learning Process (SALP), Learning Styles, Posttest Scores and Gain Scores obtained very low correlation. Hence, a weak relationship was observed. On the other hand, results revealed that there is a significant increase between the pretest and the posttest (p 0.05). This suggests that the Learner-Centered Learning Environment Module could facilitate changes in students conception of the Respiratory System. 2009-12-01T08:00:00Z text application/pdf https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/etd_doctoral/282 https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1281&context=etd_doctoral Dissertations English Animo Repository Respiratory organs—Study and teaching Biology Respiratory System
