Summary: | The present study compared and analyzed research management policies and practices in selected private higher education institutions in the Philippines. It aimed to establish the current status of research management in selected private higher education institutions in the Philippines as basis for developing a framework for research management in private higher education institutions. Research Design This is a case study designed to identify the research management practices of two selected local higher education institutions based on predetermined dimensions extracted from the review of related literature using qualitative methods as a basis for coming up with a model of research management practices for higher education institutions in the Philippines. Participants Purposive sampling was used to select the participating higher education institutions in the country with Centers of Excellence (COE) for specific programs. The Commission in Higher Education defined Centers of Excellence (COEs) and Centers of Development (CODs) as higher education institutions (HEIs) both public and private that have demonstrated the highest degree or level of standards along the areas of instruction, research and extension. Both institutions chosen have been recognized by Times Higher Education Supplement-Quacquarelli Symonds (THES-QS) as two of the top 500 universities in the world for the year 2006. Conclusion and Recommendation A model for research management can be developed for local education institutions in the Philippine based on the review of related literature of research management, the observed policies and procedures and identified unique practices of higher education institutions. |
