Summary: | This study aimed at developing a unified framework of Outcomes-Based Education (OBE) best practices in the Philippines. The method used was case study by Yin (2004). Aside from coding, the with-in case and cross-case analysis was utilized in data analysis. Data were obtained from interviews, documentary analysis and observation of selected private universities. Results of the study showed that best practices in OBE implementation are well-established and consistent among higher educational institutions in the Philippines. It is best accomplished by (1) systematizing and institutionalizing the program (2) contextualizing and reflecting on the results of the learning experience (3) gathering and documenting curriculum-related data (4) constructing and developing learning environments and learning experiences (5) establishing and executing sustainable forms of measuring student achievement and, (6) instituting reforms and program development. A follow up study on outcomes-based education, particularly on its effectiveness to the Philippine educational system, is recommended. Other variables like board exam results and employability of graduates may also be explored in future studies. |
