Summary: | Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) are a core component of any strategy designed to achieve inclusive economic growth in Asia. Cloud computing, particularly cloud ERP (or software as a service) has created positive impact to the operations of global enterprises. While most of the researches believed that Cloud ERP would best fit SMEs in a global context, it would be worth studying at what stage are the Philippine SMEs in the Cloud ERP Adoption Stage. Likewise, it will also identify the drivers/barriers that will influence the adoption/non-adoption of Cloud ERP and why these drivers influence the adoption. This research employed a qualitative, multiple case study approach in the retail industry. For the qualitative data collection, in-depth interviews with chief executives were conducted and the results were analyzed using a thematic analysis approach. Overall, cost influences the kind of data security investment and the completeness of Cloud ERP Package. The lack of organizational resources (i.e. IT infrastructure, IT Staff) makes Cloud ERP an attractive business solution for Philippine SMEs. Nonetheless, SMEs need to understand the business value of Cloud ERP before they can consider it as part of their operating expense (OPEX). Having the right knowledge on the benefits and the use of Cloud ERP is a factor that will lead to successful adoption. Due to the country's problem on telecom industry rooted directly from existing laws and government control, telecom infrastructure and poor quality of internet service offered by telecom providers directly influence the adoption of Cloud ERP. Without a stable and fast internet connection, Cloud ERP will not work as designed. This research study employed a qualitative approach in the analysis of data. |
