This study aims to develop and evaluate a computer-assisted learning package, LEARNING ELEMAG, on selected topics in electricity and magnetism. The study was divided into two stages. The first stage comprised the design and development of the learning package. The topics selected were those concepts frequently misunderstood by students. Text and graphic modes were used interchangeably to facilitate learning. The second stage involved a formative evaluation of the package done by 8 teachers and 11 students. A follow-up interview was also conducted. A hierarchy of skills was included in the interview questionnaire. As to the opinions of the evaluators, reading comprehension skills topped the list, followed by mathematical skills and skills in operating a computer and the least, is skills in programming. Experimental studies were also conducted for the effective use of CAI programs in supplementary mode. Statistical test results revealed that the mean achievement score of the experimental group (under CAI-plus method) was significantly higher than that of the control group (under lecture-discussion method) at .05 level of significance in both multiple choice and the whole test. However, both groups performed comparable to each other in problem-solving. Thus, the developed CAI package - LEARNING ELEMAG is an effective teaching aid in learning physics. It reinforces learning of the subject matter, promotes confidence of the learners and improves retention power. 1990-01-01T08:00:00Z text https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/etd_doctoral/652 Dissertations English Animo Repository Electricity--Computer-assisted instruction Magnetism--Computer-assisted instruction Physics
