This study determines the relationship between the teachers' work values, and their levels of teaching performance and morale in selected Catholic and public schools in Batangas during the school year 1992-1993.The study made use of the descriptive correlational method of research. This consisted of description, analysis, and interpretation of the status of the teachers in the twenty-two Catholic schools and selected public schools in terms of their work values, teaching performance, and perceptions of morale levels, and some selected socio-demographic attributes. The instruments used to gather data were the Personal Information Sheet (PIS), the Filipino Work Values Scale (FWVS), the Teachers' Behavior Inventory, and the Organizational Climate Descriptive Questionnaire (OCDQ).The main respondents of the study were the 688 fulltime elementary, secondary, and tertiary teachers from the 22 Catholic schools and the 559 elementary and secondary teachers from the 42 public schools in Batangas Province. The study also involved 69 principals, 3 college deans, 9 department heads, and 2 teachers-in-charge from the public and Catholic schools.Data gathered from the survey were tallied, tabulated, organized and coded. The processing of data and programming of statistical formulas were devised and handled by the University of the Philippines Computer Center using the SAS package. Two levels, the descriptive and parametric, statistical treatments were employed. The findings of the study supported the following conclusions: 1) The teachers in the Catholic schools located in the Lipa Archdiocese and the public schools covered by the Divisions of Lipa City and Batangas city are imbued with desirable work values which keep them in the teaching profession. They are generally satisfied with the teaching profession, but they look up to the Principal as the primemover of the organization and source of motivation to work together to achieve organizational goals. 2) Teachers' work values contribute significantly to the kind of school climate, and consequently the level of morale prevailing in the organization. The teachers' favorable attitude towards work and the teaching performance demonstrated by the teachers point to a pleasant and supportive climate of work that prevails in the schools investigated in the study. 3) The experience a teacher gains in teaching contributes significantly to the quality of teaching he/she delivers. 4) Teachers perform better and accomplish their tasks with a work environment that gives importance to independent learning, fairness, competence, and where teachers are motivated by the principal's dynamism, hard work and personal discipline. 5) Since only 8.87 percent of the variance in the teaching performance and since only 12.84 percent in the variance of morale can be explained, then there are other variables and factors not included in this study which could possibly explain the variances of teaching performance and morale. 1993-01-01T08:00:00Z text https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/etd_doctoral/686 Dissertations English Animo Repository Values Teachers—Job satisfaction Teacher morale Catholic schools Public schools Educational Leadership Teacher Education and Professional Development
