This study undertakes an evaluation of the extent of liturgical renewal that has been implemented in the Archdiocese of San Fernando, Pampanga. The study used the descriptive- evaluative research method. It surveyed and analyzed the extent of implementation of the Vatican II liturgical renewal through interviews and survey questionnaires. It made use of four norms to assess liturgical renewal, namely, the availability and pastoral implementation of revised rites, the acceptance of the reformed liturgy on both the clergy and the people, inculturation, and, the effects of the liturgy on evangelization, community building and social responsiveness within the said ecclesiastical jurisdiction. Respondents were 7 members of the Archdiocesan Liturgical Commission, 69 parish priests and 15 lay persons per parish of the archdiocese. From the data gathered, it was found out that in terms of the availability of rites and their pastoral implementation, the Archdiocese has so far since translated all the major rites into Pampango and on the whole, show an impressive extent of implementation of the provisions of liturgical renewal. The data manifested the attitude of openness, acceptance, and advancement that the clergy and the lay respondents have, in general, towards the reformed liturgy. In the area of inculturation of liturgy, the need for it is recognized and accepted to some extent by both the clergy and their parish constituents, especially in liturgy and music. The cultural forms of dance, visual art, architecture/furnishings and drama, however, are not used as much. The people and the clergy acknowledge to some extent to which the renewed liturgy has strengthened the evangelizing effect of the liturgy. On the impact of the renewed liturgy on building up the community, the tendency still seems to be positive, though not to the same extent. Regarding the impact of liturgical renewal in inculcating social responsiveness, both clergy and people acknowledge the liturgy as having helped in motivating people to be sensitive and responsive to situations of poverty and sufferings in their communities. The various aspects of liturgical renewal highlighted by the writings of Josef Jungmann, Pastoral/Kerygmatic Liturgy John Westerhoff III, Faith Nurture in the Liturgy Dom Odo Casel, Mysterientheologiae and Anscar J. Chupungco O.S.B., Liturgical Inculturation Synthesis, seem to be given proper consideration in the way the liturgical ministry is undertaken in the Archdiocese of San Fernando. 1993-01-01T08:00:00Z text https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/etd_doctoral/703 Dissertations English Animo Repository Evangelicalism and liturgical churches Religious awakening—Christianity Evangelistic work Catholic Church—Liturgy Liturgical movement—Catholic Church Evangelistic work Religion
