Description
Summary:The study is a descriptive research. It describes and shows the condition and situation of the ways Filipinos relate with God. The writer employs the methodology used by Van Kaam. The four steps used in the study were:First step: The writer identified the Filipinos' indigenous or innate means of relating with God, which is derived from their culture, history, psychology, etc. (Extra-revelational). Through library research, the comments and observations contained in previous studies on the same topic were noted.Second step: The Indigenous method of relating with God is evaluated in concordance with Christianity. Evaluations made by other scholars of Christianity were also utilized by the writer.Third step: The integration of the indigenous practices and Christianity in the lives of the Filipinos is examined.Fourth step: This step involves a validation or investigation of the actual indigenous or folk practices by a concrete community, a case study of the residents of poblacion Floridablanca, Pampanga province. In undertaking this study, the multi-method case study approach is used. The writes resorted to extensive interviews. The interview questions were drawn up in accordance with the results of the first step. Construction of interview questionnaires, the interviews and analysis of data, were done with the help of a sociologist. One hundred respondents were interviewed out of the total 3,200 residents of Floridablanca. Fifth step: The writer proposed a concrete integration and model to further strengthen folk practices in Floridablanca.Study showed the distinct character of the Filipinos' view of God and their concrete relationship with Him. This is called Filipino spirituality. This distinctiveness is attributable to some indigenous practices which continue to be vigorously observed in the face of the intermingling of Spanish Christianity and indigenous or folk religious practices.
