Summary: | This study endeavors to find out the comparative effectiveness of two programs--one based on twelve steps and the other on logotherapy. The subjects were 42 female drug addicts. The match grouping method was used. Instruments in this study were the Purpose in Life Scale and the Spiritual Well-Being Scale. The data were subjected to one-way analysis of covariance and t-tests.The results showed that there was a significant improvement in the meaning in life and spiritual well-being of the Twelve Steps group as well as the Logotherapy group. Such improvement was measured by the pretest and posttest scores in the Purpose In Life Scale and Spiritual Well-Being Scale. The difference between the change scores of the two groups in the meaning in life and spiritual well-being was not significant. The change of meaning in life brought about by the Twelve Steps and Logotherapy was stable one month after the programs. The change in spiritual well-being brought about by the Twelve Steps was stable while the change brought about by logotherapy on Ss' spiritual well-being decreased one month after the program. On the basis of the results, it was concluded that the programs based on the Twelve Steps and the logotherapy were effective tools for counselors in enhancing the meaning in life and the spiritual well-being of female drug addicts. |
