Three of the six respondent schools were considered effective based on the report of the National Educational Testing Research Center and the Department of Education, Culture and Sports. The three schools were included in the top 250 high schools nationwide with high performance in the National College Entrance Examination (NCEE) from 1987 to 1991. This was the basis for grouping the three respondent schools into effective and the other three schools included in the study as ineffective. The schools were also grouped according to ownership and management such as parochial, congregational, and diocesan-owned schools. The 7-S Framework of Dubose was utilized in the study to determine management profile and existing management models of respondent schools. The seven dimensions of management include structure, staff, style, skills, strategy, system, and superordinate goal. Seven dimensions of effectiveness by Starrat were also utilized to cull out commonalities in the effectiveness of schools. These include teachers' performance, students' performance, personal and professional growth of teachers, absence and drop-out rate of students, quality of school and community relations, quality of teacher-management relations, and teachers' job satisfaction. Data were gathered through documentary analysis, inteviews, and the use of three questionnaires such as Reddin's 3-D Theory of Administrative Style Diagnosis Test, Staff Development Skills Questionnaire, and Job Satisfaction Questionnaire.Based on the findings, the following conclusions were drawn:1. There is no commonality among diocesan schools under the 7-S Framework and 7 Dimensions of effectiveness.2. There are some distinguishing characteristics of effective schools in so far as the 7-S Model is concerned.3. Indicators of school effectiveness are affirmed in the study in so far as the effective schools are concerned. The effective schools may be described as:STRUCTURE ... Accredited status, maintenance of quality instruction and selective admission, offered specialized curricular program.STYLE ... Bureaucratic, emphasizes rules and regulations.STAFF ... Systematic and responsive development program for human resources.SYSTEM ... Functional Board of TrusteesSKILLS ... To be effective, all three skills are needed: conceptual, technical, and human.SUPERORDINATE GOAL ... Present, reviewed and defined with community involvement and participation. 1998-01-01T08:00:00Z text https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/etd_doctoral/785 Dissertations Filipino Animo Repository School management and organization Educational planning Church schools Educational Leadership |
