This outcome research investigates the effectiveness of Visual-Kinesthetic Dissociations (VKD) and Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT) in improving the self-concept and adjustment of institutionalized 13-17 year-old female physically abused adolescents. It also looks into the clinical significance of therapeutic effects of the two counseling interventions based on elimination of presenting concern and adaptive functioning from the perspectives of clients and independent raters (i.e., housemother, psychologist, and social worker). This experimental study employed the idiographic (N=1) design which follows the A-B pattern (baseline treatment-follow-up) with single replications. The 6 clients were randomly assigned to treatment and control conditions, with two clients each for VKD and SFT, and two wait-list control clients. The Pasao Self-Concept Rating Scale and Bell Adjustment Inventory were used to assess client self-concept and adjustment. Results of these assessment measures were verified further by the independent raters' observations of client self-concept and adjustment and perception of clients' presenting concern through the Systematic Observation Schedule checklist and Independent Raters' Perception of Client's Presenting Concern Scale. Possible changes in client self-concept and adjustment as a result of VKD and SFT treatments were assessed at three-day, one-week, and one-month posttests. Results of the study showed the effectiveness of SFT and VKD as evidenced by improvements in clients' self-concept and adjustment at three-day, one-week, and one-month posttests and clinically significant therapeutic effects at one-month posttest as shown by the elimination of presenting concern and improved adaptive functioning. 2000-01-01T08:00:00Z text https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/etd_doctoral/859 Dissertations English Animo Repository Psychotherapy Counseling Dissociation (Psychology) Self-perception Adjustment (Psychology) in adolescence Counseling Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy |
