Life satisfaction of single women in their midlife journey

The study investigates the factors that influence the life satisfaction of single women in midlife and was undertaken as an attempt to add to the meager amount of literature on single women midlifers who are rapidly growing. Self-esteem, social support, life events, leisure activities and goal attainment were used as predictors of life satisfaction in a regression analysis. Likewise, perception of family, friends, and co-workers was also utilized in the qualitative research to show its relationship to life satisfaction of single women midlifers. The data came from 80 single unmarried childless women whose ages ranged from 35-49. Based on the findings, self-esteem, goal attainment on relatedness, community feeling, and image are good predictors of life satisfaction among the single women midlifers. Likewise, the perception of others turned out to be also a good predictor that contributed to the life satisfaction among single women midlifers. Moreover, this research shows average single women midlifers are experiencing life satisfaction, contrary to society's traditional view that complete satisfaction cannot be found in the single lifestyle.
