Description
Summary:Multicomponent distillation is much more formidable than binary distillation in that graphical techniques are not really useful. Resorting to analytical methods, however, requires too much labor to be done manually. The aid of a computer is therefore enlisted. This project study presents two working BASIC computer program which can be used to solve two types of distillation problem: (1) design of column from some given product specifications, (2) determination of product composition from an existing column. The effect of the design variables and operating variables on the distillation process will then be investigated by two approaches. The first approach will be to specify the product compositions and reflux ratio, and then their effects on column design. In the second approach, there is an existing column, and the operating variables (reflux ratio and distillate rates) will be manipulated so as to observe their effects on product quality.
