Summary: | Coconut wood utilization has been resorted to by the government as a productive means of disposing unwanted felled coconut tree trunks. Previous studies conducted identified cocowood as a potential alternative source of building material. To be used as a structural timber, working stresses for cocowood are recommended to the National Structural Code of the Philippines (NSCP). To accompany the design stresses, a grading scheme compatible to the Code is also recommended. The basis for the recommendation is the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) standards for establishing structural grades and related allowable properties for visually graded lumber given the basic stresses of the wood. |
