Summary: | The elusive goal of industrialization has evaded the Filipinos since they first embarked on programs to attain it. After decades of struggle, the country is still heavily dependent on other nations for its basic needs. Neighboring countries formerly its equals (and even less) in economic stature has since reached greater heights in their economic and industrial development. Paradoxically, some, noticeably South Korea, Taiwan, Hongkong, and even Singapore are our chief suppliers of machineries and equipment.
This paper would attempt to introduce into the market a Filipino designed machine using low cost and readily available parts. It is designed to directly compete with the imported machines made for the similar purpose, enhancing quality in the Plastics Manufacturing Industry. The group chose to concentrate on the mechanical part of the machine for the reason that it is believed that it is in this aspect that the group could provide low cost but efficient design contributions.
Included in the paper are relevant studies such as cost analysis, strength computations and quality testing. It will be established that the proposed automatic edge guiding machine design could meet the competition offered by foreign companies engaged in this business (design and fabrication) specially on the aspect of machine cost and also on the grounds of strength and quality of products processed. |
