Summary: | This study entitled Mythos of winter: An Archetypal Criticism of Eric Gamalinda's The Empire of Memory will be undertaken to understand and to explain the collective unconscious of the Filipino people. The archetypal framework that will be used here was given by Northrop Frye, a notable critic. To be able to penetrate into the unconsciousness of the Filipino people, a Filipino novel written by a Filipino author was selected.
The basis of Frye's framework revolves around two main factors: the plot structure and the characters. The thrust of this study, then, is to show the similarities between the plot structure and the characters supplied by Frye to the plot structure and the characters depicted in Gamalinda's novel.
Findings of these similarities will eventually lead to the basic understanding of the hopes, values, dreams, and aspirations of the Filipino society. |
