Description
Summary:This exploratory study aimed to determine the definition, behavioral manifestations and level of political participation of the Filipino, specifically the urban poor, in politics. Likewise, it sought to tentatively explain the reasons behind such levels. It was observed from the sample community of Bagong Clinic site that they limit their perceptions of political participation to electoral activities, though they were able to enumerate a diverse range of political activities. The results show that the extent of their political participation was generally passive. The three main considerations that account for the reported levels of participation are insufficient education, desire to improve current situation, and perceived limited opportunities for political involvement.
