Description
Summary:Last September 14, 1997, I had the opportunity to interview Mr. Alfred Yuson. This thesis is a conglomeration of all the ideas he shared which concern the development of his writing career, his perception of Philippine literature, and a social commentary on his anthology The Music Child and Other Stories. Regarding the development of his writing career, which is the bulk of this oral history, he gave an account of the major influences he has had. In the course of the interview, he also shared his insights on the status of Philippine literature, and how he believes it should be understood. I also pointed out the social images which can be derived from the short stories included in the anthology. They assert how literature, and the readers and writers who are a part of society are linked. This thesis also contains direct quotations from The Music Child and Other Stories which will further elucidate points raised by Alfred Yuson regarding his writing style, and to exemplify the social truths which I encountered in the readings I have done on the stories.
