Abstract. This is a study about Spanish migrants in the Philippines and their descendants. The main thrust of this study is to find out if these migrants and their descendants were able to successfully integrate themselves into the Philippine society. Upon arriving on Philippine soil, the Spaniards were made to face a different setting thus, adjustment was necessary. Among the problems that they encountered was the language barrier which was the most difficult. Religion also posed as a problem as the Spaniards and the Filipinos had totally different beliefs about God, marriage, and rituals. These difficulties were faced. One solution adopted was marriages with the local population. The product of these intermarriages are known as mestizos and they are the people whom the researchers have chosen to interview so that the study could be further discussed and in doing so, the purpose of this research would be fulfilled. In general, the problem of migration and integration in the local society is highlighted in this thesis. 1995-01-01T08:00:00Z text https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/etd_honors/168 Honors Theses English Animo Repository International and Area Studies
