Description
Summary:The team recognizes the potentials of Automated Guided Vehicles (AGV's) in the near future specifically as material handlers in Flexible Manufacturing Systems (FMS). Having this in mind, they resolved to conceptualize, design, and construct a working prototype of an AGV. The battery powered prototype runs on four wheels driven by two DC motors and is controlled by an on board Z80-based microcomputer using incremental encoders, ultrasonics, infrared, and pressure sensors for guidance. It may also be controlled or monitored by a host computer via half duplex radio link. It has to be noted however, that the AGV prototype is just but a scale model simulating what a full-size AGV could be.
