Description
Summary:Our thesis deals with automating the quality control process of Solid Parts Corporation for one of their products, the Visteon-Ford air intake shafts. They are currently applying a manual process for their quality inspection for the said product. Their manual process requires the use of three different tools to be able to measure the five required dimensions of the shaft to be inspected. This results in a long process time, since shafts are inspected one at a time by a single worker. Our thesis incorporates mechanical, electronics, and programming concepts in building the automated inspection device. Our device is able to measure all required dimensions, and it also has the capability to store readings acquired into a database and generate a report when needed. Inspection time was reduced more than 50%, based on time and motion study conducted on both the manual and automated process. We were able to achieve 100% accuracy and 100% reliability of our device based on results from experiments done. Having excellent results and evident advantages, the automated quality control and data collection system would greatly improve productivity and efficiency of the quality control process of Solid Parts Corporation.
