Description
Summary:Shrink wrapping is a packaging process performed to provide protection to wooden products from dirt and moisture. Woodmark Enterprises shrink wraps pre-packed wooden products through manual application of heat with the use of a heat blower. This results to a dangerous and time consuming process. Moreover, the unequal application of heat causes holes thus sacrificing the quality of the packaging of the finished goods. To address the quality issues of the packaging and the health risks of the workers, there is a need for the design and fabrication of the Shrink Wrapping Machine (SWM). The SWM transports the pre-packed product using a variable speed conveyor and shrinks the plastic to fit tightly to the product as it enters the heat tunnel. The SWM does not only perform this task with a much lesser time but also assure the quality of the result produced. Experiments were conducted to identify the best combination of temperature and speed and to justify the long-term advantages of the SMW. With the use of the SWM, problems are reduced and the productivity and efficiency of the process increase in general.
