Description
Summary:This thesis produces a paper counter that can improve the paper counting process but not as costly as the available commercial paper counting machines. The technology that has been used in completing the product design and analysis in this study is the CATIA package, high end CAE/CAD/CAM software. The GibbsCam package is used in part programming that generates Numeric Codes used in communicating with the CNC machine tools. The CNC milling and turning machine tools are used in fabricating different components of paper counter because of its speed and accuracy. The main component of the paper counter is a rotary disc that has helical grooves, large enough for the corner of paper to engage in it and serves as the passage of paper. The suction ports which are perpendicular to the grooves help transfer the sheet of paper from the lower side to the upper side of the disc with the use of a vacuum ejector. The vacuum ejector is connected to the pressure sensor that is sending the pressure signal to the microcontroller during counting process. The counting happens during the constant rotation of the rotary disc in relation with the timing of the vertical descent velocity of the carriage. The experiments proved that objectives have been achieved by counting paper with a very high accuracy. The speed in counting and accuracy of the paper counter is much better than manual counting of papers.
