Summary:This mixed method study was conducted for the following goals: first, to determine the emotional intelligence and interpersonal relationship profiles of the SVD seminarians in Flores, Indonesia second, to find out how seminarians describe their emotional life and interpersonal relationships experienced in the seminary third, to assess the seminarians needs, concerns, and problems and their suggestions to meet their needs, concerns, and problems and fourth, to design a counseling intervention program to answer the seminarians needs, concerns, and problems particularly in the areas of emotional intelligence and interpersonal relationship. The process of study consisted of three phases. Phase I Profiles: the seminarians emotional intelligence and interpersonal relationship profiles were measured by the General Emotional Intelligence Scale (GEIS) and Fundamental Interpersonal Relations Orientation Behavior (FIROB). The participants of this phase were 75 seminarians, second to fourth year level (25 seminarians of each level). Phase II The seminarians description of their emotional life and interpersonal relationship in the seminary their needs, concerns, and problems and their suggestions to meet their needs, concerns, and problems. Eighteen participants were selected based on the result of the GIES: 6 participants from each level (top 3 and bottom 3) were interviewed. Phase III A counseling intervention program. Based on the results of Phase I and Phase II, a counseling intervention program was developed to enhance the seminarians emotional intelligence and improve their skills in building interpersonal relationship across different stages of formation. Based on the findings of this research, several recommendations for SVD formation and future research are forwarded.
