Description
Summary:The purpose of this study is to investigate the level of self-esteem, acculturative stress and adjustment of Korean adolescents studying in Philippine high schools as regular students and their coping strategies based on their living arrangements-- living with relatives or family (Rel) and living in boarding houses (BH)--and to establish the relationship between the participants self-esteem and their acculturative stress levels and their self-esteem and adjustment levels. Furthermore, this study sought to determine if there is any relationship between self-esteem and coping strategies. In the first stage, each of the 100 participants--all of whom have lived in the Philippines for at least one year--were selected and were asked to answer four standardized scales. The quantitative data were then analyzed by mean, standard deviation and t-value. In the second stage, participants in the focus group discussions (FGDs) were selected based on their adjustment scale scores. These qualitative results were then analyzed to determine additional information on problems encountered by the Korean students and the coping strategies they utilize. These results illustrate the profiles of each variable and the relationships between variables. Based on the findings of this research, recommendations for future research are presented and an outline of a program is proposed.
