Summary: | This strategic management paper is for Consolidated Industrial Gases, Inc. (CIGI), the authors current employer. This paper ultimately attempts to provide CIGI with a strategic plan through the recommendation of competitive strategies that, on basis of various frameworks used, will allow the company to continue its dominance in the Philippines market for its products and services.
Through the use of Porter's five forces model, the paper provides an analysis of the Company's task environment by examining the competitive forces affecting the industry.
In line with the result of the analysis of the Task Environment, this paper further attempts to determine changes in the external environment, through an analysis using the five (5) segments that comprise the macroenvironment namely Political, Social, Economic, Technological and Institutional, which provide the basis for threats and opportunities to the industry.
For the formulation of strategies, the process started with the proposed revision of the vision statement as follows
CIGI will remain as the leading gas supplier of choice in the markets it serves by providing the best value adding solutions.
The author believes that with the change in the ownership of CIGI (BOC) in September 06, to LINDE, part of the change process is to re introduce the vision to indicate where LINDE would take CIGI in the succeeding years. |
