Description
Summary:Students are the center of any educational institution. Data and information relating to students are the main focus of any information system developed to support all other activities that pertains to a student life cycle: from the time of their admission until their graduation. The student life cycle differs from one educational institution to another. Even the schools owned and managed by a single entity could have different approach and procedures in providing support and service to their students. The De La Salle- College of Saint Benildes non-degree programs is not an exception. With four (4) schools offering different non-degree program in different discipline, approach and methods in supporting the activities of students also varies. The information systems developed in-house to support the student life cycle automates few activity of such cycle, leaving most of the activities to be done manually. By identifying common procedures and activities pertaining to the student life cycle of the School of Hotel, Restaurant and Institution Management (SHRIM), School of Professional and Continuing Education (SPaCE), School of Design and Arts (SDA), School of Deaf Education and Applied Studies (SDEAS), this research aims to develop a generic student life cycle (SLC) management system that will be developed and tested at the schools identified above using usability and other metrics. The four schools where the prototype will be tested offers programs different from those of the regular program. This prototype aims to empower clients and users to further enhance its quality services by enabling the SLC-activities be conducted online. Such transition from an automated process to a user-centered information system aims not only to utilize the current technology and infrastructure DLS-CSB has as a means to be efficient in ones environment, but also serves as a vehicle to support DLS-CSBs mission and vision with its innovative and relevant programs. This research is about the development and testing of an information system named Non-Degree Programs Student Information System (NDP-SIS).
