Description
Summary:Automation is one of the thrusts of the Mechatronics Engineering (MEE) and Manufacturing Engineering & Management (MEM) department of Bulacan State University (BulSU) that is why a great part of the curriculum is devoted towards studying the building blocks of automated system for industries. Since engineering education requires experimentation, the university invested on several stand-alone automation laboratory equipment's, in order for its graduates to have an adequate knowledge in the equipment's used in the industry. Todays industries rely on the cooperative development of multidisciplinary technical systems and most manufacturing process is integrated with robotics, conveyors, sensors and programmable logic controllers. With the present set up of the industries, integrated manufacturing systems such as Manufacturing Cell, Flexible Manufacturing System (FMS) and Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM) system are needed in order to provide the industries with skilled manpower. Also, if manufacturing systems could be brought into the laboratories of academic institutions, manufacturing training, design, experimentation, and testing could be significantly enhanced. The research design used in the study was experimental method. The designs, manufacture, assembly, testing and technical documentations were done with the guide of various tools such as MS Office, Automation Studio, Microsoft Visio, WinSPS, Hyperterminal, and SNC software. Experimental set-up was used to test iv the functionality of the system. Efficiency rating will be considered as determinant for the acceptability of the system. The non functional Automated Transfer System has been reconfigured and integrated to the Manufacturing cell. The RV 500 robots gripper has been upgraded to a pneumatic one. A CNC Engraver has been produced from an XY table and a Z axis. The Manufacturing cell has been integrated by means of a PLC that acted as Cell Controller.
