Summary: | This term paper is submitted in partial fulfillment of the course requirements in Strategic Management under the tutelage of Professor Elfren S. Cruz. This paper summarizes what the author has learned during the fourteen sessions of classroom discussion on the theory, concepts and practical applications of strategic management.
This paper is comprised of three major studies. First part consists of a study on the environment (macro-environment, task environment-- the environment where the company competes) that affects the real estate industry in the Philippine setting. In the second part, an analysis of the company under review, Filinvest Alabang, Inc. is covered. Finally, a viable strategy suited to the corporation is discussed in the final portion of the report.
The industry study begins with the overview of the real estate industry. A macro-environmental analysis as task environmental scanning/analysis with the end-in-view of arriving at the opportunities and threats that confronts the organization occupies the focal point in this section of the term paper. The Portet model was used as a framework in discussion of the industry structure.
In the company study, a situational analysis is the primary focus of the report. Corporate strengths and weaknesses were identified and also the personal values of the key decision-makers. As a result, the competitive advantages the company has including those that it can further developed were brought to fore. Porter's value chain analysis, the strategic map and the competitive advantage cycle were used as framework in this section of the report.
Both the industry and the company analysis provided the major in outs to crafting the strategy for the company. An evaluation of the opportunities present was outlined. Alternative strategic options were discussed. The most feasible of these was decided upon as the best suited for the company allowing it to strengthen its position in the industry without stretching its lean organization. The report concludes with a functional implementation plan for the suggested overall strategy. The 7-S framework, a framework for assessing the capabilities of the company to implement the chosen strategy was integrated in the final section of this term paper. |
