The company established itself as the market leader in digital mobile communication with its subscriber base close to 2.5 million subscribers by end 2000. Presently, Globe is facing challenges and in the coming years. Among these are (uncertainties in the country's political and economic system, (b) managing company's growth, (c) cost balancing between building and operation a high quality network while offering an affordable product to different target market. In the face of these keys challenges, Globe will continue to be at the front of catering to the ever-growing demand for more sophisticated wireless services by enhancing its capabilities in new technology. With continued focus on growth combined with profitabilty, Globe aims to capture under-penetrated markets and harness the economic potential of its existing subscriber base. This paper will addresss the key strategic issues that the company is facing, specifically: (1) how to sustain explosive growth base (2) how will the management maximize the business opportunity and benefits available in Islacom acquisition? (3) how will the company defend its market leadership from the number one challenger--Smart? (4) interconnection issue- how will the company address the risk and challenge of interconnection to its competitor, PLDT and Smart?
