The sister refused to give up the authority that had been given to the sister administrators since they were employed in SJC, twenty years ago. With the stability of the school organization imperiled, members of the academic community took side in the conflict. Parents believed that the Sisters had been doing a good job, and they should continue. On the other hand, the bishop had supporters from influential people.
