Benefits of lingam massage among Filipino elderly men in Cebu City

This qualitative research examined the reasons, knowledge and experiences of elderly men concerning the practice of Lingam massage. The study describes the various physical, sexual, and psychological health benefits of Lingam massage among 15 purposively selected Filipino elderly men ages 60 years old and above who are residing in Cebu City. It also looked into the reasons for access, experienced benefits, and knowledge about the massage. The researcher used a semi-structured interview to obtain data for the study. The results of this study showed that the elderly men avail Lingam massage to help them achieve sexual pleasure, to fill in the gap left by their asexual wives, and to address physical conditions particularly erectile dysfunction and prostate-related health concerns. While it is physical in nature, some of the informants thought of erectile dysfunction to affect their masculinity. Thus, they resort to availing of lingam to regain their masculinity. The informants knowledge on Lingam massage is based on its functionality they did not mention about their knowledge on the origins and specific techniques on this massage but rather emphasized its potential benefits. Informants suffering from various ailments and/or disabilities view lingam massage as a way to address their sexual needs while remaining passive and not exerting too much physical effort. The benefits of Lingam massage as mentioned by the informants can be on their physical, sexual and psychological health. The informants in this study explained that Lingam massage as they have experienced, is not a standard massage with pre-set therapeutic effects rather it is a massage that gives benefits depending on your problems. The primary benefits related to sexual health that the informants get from Lingam massage is the achievement of sexual pleasure. This pleasure is even more pronounced if are able they regain penile erection. The benefits of Lingam massage also have provided a psychological dimension on the informants experiences.
