This study sought to provide a framework for a parental involvement program based on the definitions and practices of selected schools in Metro Manila. This research aimed to find out how each selected school community define parental involvement, what parental involvement initiatives are practiced in terms of parenting, communicating, volunteering, learning at home, decision making and collaborating with community, what unique parent involvement practices are evident in each school and what should be considered in creating a parental involvement program in the Philippines. Four (4) schools representative of the early childhood education in Metro Manila were selected. These four (4) schools include the following: a traditional public school, a private Montessori school, a private Catholic school and a private progressive school. The participants were administrators, teachers and parents. The study made use of personal and written interviews, focus group discussions, observations and review of documents as data sources. It was found that a parental involvement program of a school is not only a result of how that school defines it and what practices they have. It is also highly dependent on the schools beliefs and philosophy, cultural values and families response to the call of the school that makes each parental involvement program unique in each school community. A comprehensive framework can be drawn to encompass the differences in these programs, embodying a community-dictated structure that is manifested through varying facets of parental involvement like direct and indirect involvement that communities actually practice. 2013-01-01T08:00:00Z text https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/etd_masteral/4570 Master's Theses English Animo Repository |
