Description
Summary:The dichloromethane extract of the air dried leaves of the plant, Aphanamixis polystachya, Indian name Pithraj and local name kangko, afforded a new sesquiterpene (AP1/AP1). AP1 is a mixture of sesquiterpene and acyclic hydrocarbon which was partially characterized by 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopy. The sesquiterpene was reisolated as AP1 for structure elucidation. The structure of AP1 was elucidated by extensive 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopy and confirmed by Mass spectrometry. The structure of AP1 represents a norbonyl-type sesquiterpene hydrocarbon skeleton. The structures of AP4 (squalene), AP5 (polyprenol), AP6 (b-carotene) and AP8 (lutein) were identified by comparison of their 1H NMR and 13C NMR data with those reported in the literature.
