Knowledge, attitudes and responsive practices related to local health systems among municipal mayors

The descriptive research sought to lay down relationships between the mayors knowledge of the local health system as well as their attitude towards collaboration with responsive practices instituted to address the health situation. The research utilized the survey method among mayors (n=23) who responded with interest to participate in the survey. In general, attitude towards collaboration have more significant relationships with health outcomes pre-intervention as compared to knowledge on health systems and its relationship to the health outcomes. There were no correlations that surfaced between socio demographic characteristics as well as extent of training on health and governance with knowledge of the local health system and attitude towards collaboration. Attitude towards collaboration further displayed more significant relationships with responsive practices on community engagement, health policies and health financing, as compared to knowledge of the local health system with responsive practices. The research highlighted numerous insights in building and strengthening leadership development theory and concept in the Philippine setting. It gave clearer and more detailed knowledge of important relationships and basis to remember in understanding and contextualizing leadership development for the Filipino Mayor. Furthermore, the research also gave insights on practitioner level knowledge that are practical and easily adaptable to the current practice in leadership and leadership development.
