Summary: | Of Tumble/words: Poems about Wrestling with Language is a creative writing thesis that explores the wonderful world of wrestling as a sport, and as a passionate struggle to experience wrestling with language materializing in a wrestling ring or the poetic landscape where words and music clash for creation and discovery. This project also discusses how a beginning writer wrestles with language and transforms shyness, recklessness, and uncertainties into a poetic voice that is uniquely his own, locating it therefore in the center of his aesthetics. The poems in this study expose wrestling as a dominant sphere for creation in order to highlight the spectacle of both play and reality in the wrestling world. In the collection, the poems exhibit a game that involves experimenting with sounds, words, tropes, to name a few. They tackle various themes about wrestling in the first part of the collection mostly nonsense, love and places made unfamiliar in the second and a lyric sequence in the third. Preceding the collection is an essay that explains the authors poetics stemming from autobiographical moments inspiring readers of his love and passion for wrestling and language, as well as his artistic process in writing the poems in the collection. |
