Description
Summary:This is a quantitative study that seeks to understand the relationship between emotional intelligence and the teaching performance of college professors in selected private universities in Manila. It assesses the level of emotional intelligence of the teacher-respondents based on socio-demographic characteristics (age), work-related characteristics (tenure), and family environment, and determines how emotional intelligence relates to teaching performance, the quality of relationship with colleagues, and the quality of relationship with students. A total of 60 full-time college professors in selected private universities in Manila were surveyed. The statistical tools used to determine the relationship of the variables in the study included: Chi-square Test, Fishers Exact Test, and Pearson Correlation. The findings revealed that there is a significant relationship between emotional intelligence and teaching performance. There is also a strong relationship between emotional intelligence and quality of relationship with colleagues. On the other hand, socio-demographic characteristics (age), work-related characteristics (tenure), family environment, and the quality of relationship with students do not have a significant relationship with emotional intelligence.
