Description
Summary:People participation plays a pivotal role in Barangays it serves as a determinant in measuring the success of each and every programs or initiatives in a community. In this action research project, I focused on addressing the issue on the low level of participation among the residents with the initiatives of the Barangay. With this project, I aimed to: (1) Encourage residents to participate in conceptualizing program needs in the Barangay with the collaboration of their street officials (2) Increase volunteerism to improve the Barangays advocacies of peace and order and community development (3) Increase the awareness of the residents on the street officials initiatives. In addressing the issue identified, I adapted Kuipers et.al. Change management model to initiate a first order change to maximize the existing resources of the Barangay. The interventions done to address the issues were: (1) an orientation to increase the awareness of the street officials on their responsibilities in the neighborhood and, (2) have a street sharing monthly activity with residents to encourage participation in the street level. The activities highlighted the importance of participation from both the leaders and the residents for the success of the Barangay lies on collective efforts of the people. The experience taught me the values of respect, patience and understanding every voice is important in building the community. And, finally, of how organizational commitment is linked to people participation through which it may be applied to various organizations.
