Description
Summary:Lately, consumers have been into healthy living and eating. This has been proven by the introduction of health drinks, diet trends, and even lifestyle changes, which includes jogging and going to the gym. However, there are factors that cannot simply be addressed by the change of lifestyle, particularly on the food we eat day by day. Through the years, for the reasons of industrialization and globalization, men are geared more on profit than on offering what is best and safe for the consumers. Knowing that health is one of primary concerns of an individual, the paper will pursue on how a person can have a choice by introducing an advocacy campaign for organic consumption through the Department of Agriculture. The research part of the paper will delve into history of organic farming internationally and here in the Philippines. It will detail on how the collaboration of several non- government organizations and the Philippine government championed on educating farmers to shift from conventional farming to organic. The good thing about organic consumption is that it has a holistic approach. It will not only benefit the consumer but also it will help the earth. A survey has also been used to illustrate consumers knowledge about organic consumption. The result from the survey determined that though consumers are aware of the chemical fertilizers induced in foods, they are still wary to buy Organic foods primarily because of its inaccessibility and price. Through these findings, the advocacy campaign will focus on how to entice the consumer to purchase Organic foods highlighting on its benefits. The main idea will revolve around the you are what you eat pitch on which the primary targets will be mothers who are decision makers of the household. The Department of Agriculture having been currently aided with the Organic Agriculture Act of 2010 will give the government leeway on how to mandate the obligations of both farmers and traders to the benefit of the consumers. This however, must be regulated and safeguarded by the government since this is crucial and valuable to one of the Philippines main profitable industry which is agriculture.
