Multiple case study approach was used in identifying themes, such as need for interpersonal relationships, fears, and coping strategies, in the interviews of six participants. Coping Appraisal in the Stress and Coping Model of Lazarus & Folkman (1984 cited in Bal, Crombez, De Bourdeaudhuij & Van Oost, 2009 Seiffge-Krenke et al., 2009) was utilized to determine the perceptions on the past negative experiences or situations, whether the experience was threat, challenge or harm. The findings showed that adolescents perceive past experiences as challenge which allowed them to developed coping strategies.
