Diabetes state of knowledge, attitude towards prevention, preventive measures and job performance of health service providers with prediabetes condition in Digos City

The study aimed to describe the health service providers state of knowledge on diabetes as a disease, attitude towards disease prevention, preventive behavior in terms of perceived and practiced, the relationship of their state of knowledge and attitude on their preventive behavior, and job performances as health influencers in conducting the anti-diabetes program. Data were gathered through a one on one interview with the midwives and the barangay health workers, and an interview guide was utilized to know their knowledge, attitude, preventive measures and job performances as front liners of the program. To add, this study used a qualitative research design, and content analysis. Themes were used to categorize and analyze the data gathered. Patterns in the data were drawn from the transcriptions and translations gathered and were organized through construction of tables, and coding. Important narratives in both Bisaya and English language were presented to provide a clearer overview of the health service providers responses. Results spelled out the variations among the state of knowledge, attitude on prevention, preventive measures in terms of perceived and practiced, and job performances of the health service providers. Accurate and inaccurate knowledge on diabetes, positive and negative attitude towards disease prevention were found in the study. Knowledge and attitude also influenced their preventive measures. In the same way, their preventive measures were found to be related to their job performances which involved the services they perform within and beyond the bounds of their terms of reference.
