Summary: | Cardiovascular diseases continue to be one of the leading causes of death, not only in the Philippines, but worldwide the need to monitor patients continuously has risen due to the fatal nature of these diseases. Ambulatory ECG monitoring has answered this need but to this day, existing practices continue to have holes which causes delays in the transfer of patient information. The unrelenting advancements in smart phone technology and rise in number of its users have opened doors for medical devices specifically for this study, ambulatory ECG recording. However, existing devices are still unable to bridge the physical gap between the patient and the physician. The need for wireless data transfer between huge geographical distances is the specific problem that the study aims to address. Cloud computing continues to be a rising method in data handling, with the likes of google drive, drop box and iCloud, the method proves that not only it is convenient, it is also safe and effective.
In this study two Android OS applications were developed, one for the patient and the other for the physician, which allows transfer of ECG data to and from an online server. The system designed was patterned after the LAMP software stack, in which all of its components are open-source.
It has been concluded that the LAMP open-source software stack is capable of handling and storing ECG data via the internet, this enables the physician to monitor and analyze the patients ECG readings without having the need to be physically together and therefore bridging the gap in ambulatory ECG monitoring. |
