Summary: | This study describes the Tuberculosis related stigma of TB patients in Quezon City. Specific domains of Tuberculosis related Stigma such as experienced stigma and internalized stigma were investigated. This study provided a descriptive analysis of the factors associated with Tuberculosis related stigma such as socio-demographic characteristics and knowledge level about Tuberculosis. Ultimately, the study also sought to elicit the adherence and non-adherence of the TB patients in relation to Tuberculosis related stigma. Purposive sampling method in the 5th district of Quezon City was used in the selection of 100 respondents. Results of the study showed that among the variables explored, only age was found to be significantly associated with TB related stigma. The role that age play in a TB patients well-being should be considered in designing and implementing stigma reduction programs. It was found the TB patients were moderately to highly knowledgeable about TB and were moderately stigmatized in relation to TB. It was also found that majority of TB patients are compliant to their anti-TB treatment. |
