Summary: | Food Security is one of the major problem of a small but populated country like the Philippines, and to add to that the country is in one of the most active typhoon zones in the world, which annually causes billion of pesos of destruction to crops all around the country. Furthermore, with onset of global warming more extreme climate patterns are expected. With that being able to create a self-sustaining, continuous, weather protected smart farm is a matter of national security.
In farming, there are several key factors to consider in order to maximize the growth and yield of a plant, which are: Light, water, environment and lastly nutrients. Among these, the irrigation and nutrient intake are among the factors that greatly affects crop yield and growth. With that, this study presents a design and implementation of fuzzy based control system for irrigation in conjunction with a scheduling fertigation system. By using soil moisture sensors and temperature as input for the fuzzy system and the output being the total volume of water that would irrigated the plant per day. Further, a flow-based control system would be used in order to accurately monitor and control the total volume each plant set would need as outputted by the fuzzy. Lastly with the use of a fertilizer injector and a water type valve choosing mechanism, liquid fertilizer would be inputted into the system with a scheduling-based system that would be based on soil test kit provided by the Bureau of Soils and Water Management (BSWM) that would determine the fertilizer requirement depending on type of plant and initial soil condition. |
