Diplomatic tension between states can lead to an imposition of sanctions in order to punish a certain country. These sanctions are punitive in form and may harm the target country economically, but the extent of the damages may not necessarily harm the entire economy. This study looked into the effects of Chinas imposed sanctions in terms of Chinese Tourist Arrivals and Tourism Revenue in the Philippines. Responses of the government and private agencies have also been considered. It is important to identify the effects of these sanctions and explore the relevant responses by the government and private agencies to determine how it has affected the tourism industry. Effects of the sanctions to Chinese tourist arrivals and tourism revenue was determined by analyzing official data gathered from the database of the Department of Tourism (DOT), Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) and Department of Budget and Management (DBM), whereas policy responses were also analyzed through interviews with key officials of Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), DOT, and Tourism Promotions Board (TPB) and other private organizations and travel agencies. Several data about trade industry were also included in order to give an in depth analysis on the effects of these imposed sanctions. The data gathered were analyzed through the method of Process Tracing. This technique looks at how variables are connected with each other. Results show that there were immediate effects of the imposed sanctions but it did not bring detrimental impact to the tourism industry. The analysis of the data gathered in this study may be used to explain the policy responses and determine the effects of travel sanctions imposed to the Philippines through the method of triangulation. This case study is defined as a phenomenon occurring in a bounded context. 2017-01-01T08:00:00Z text https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/etd_masteral/5666 Master's Theses English Animo Repository
