Summary: | This research has a two-fold task namely: to assess the current status of the different areas of operation of the grade school department of St. Mary's College of Meycauyan specifically on the areas of leadership, management, ethos, discipline, teachers and teaching, curriculum, student learning, pupil care/student services/student activities, learning environment and school building; and to come up with a research-based action program that will enhance the educational effectiveness of the said department. A descriptive developmental approach was used in this study with 328 respondents from the members of the school community of St. Mary's College of Meycauyan. The conceptual framework of this study was anchored on Reid et al's research-based developmental model for enhancing educational effectiveness. The Educational Effectiveness Survey Questionnaire developed by the researcher and the records obtained from the Teachers' Performance Rating served as sources of data. Two focus group discussions were conducted to confirm the results of the survey and to come up with the proposed research-based action program to enhance the school educational effectiveness.
The over-all result of the study revealed that all five groups of respondents in this study namely the students, parents, personnel, teachers, and administrators perceived the SMCM Grade School Department as educationally effective. Among the nine key areas of operation being studied in this research, student learning got the highest over-all mean score followed by the area on curriculum, school buildings and learning environment and the grade school leadership. The areas on student discipline, teachers and teaching, pupil care/students services/student activities were also found effective. The area on the central administration (school) was also perceived to be effective, though it got the lowest over-all rating across respondents. To enhance the school's effectiveness, the researcher together with the focus group, proposed and develop a research-based action program that sought to further strengthen the nine key areas of operation. |
