The primary focus of this study is the concept of safety of the selected construction workers and the factors that affect their concepts. This study seeks to determine the behavior of the construction workers in preventing and responding to safety concerns and issues. Two construction companies were selected for this study. One of which has had projects abroad, and the other had only projects in the Philippines. The method that was used in gathering the data was in-depth interviews with key informants. There were a total twenty key informants composed of applicators, carpenters, electricians, foremen, painters, and welders. According to the results, several factors affect the key informants’ concept of safety such as age, marital status, work conditions, and geographical location. In preventing accidents, construction workers observe several practices. There are those which are common to all the workers such as wearing safety clothes and gears, being cautious, and following the safety policies instituted by their company. There are also practices which are specific to their line of work such as proper handling of equipments, and keeping their own work stations in order. When faced with a safety issue, all of the construction workers believe that the proper mechanism in responding to it was to report it to their foreman, nurse, or the project engineer. 2011-04-27T07:00:00Z text application/pdf https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/etd_masteral/5868 https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/context/etd_masteral/article/12721/viewcontent/CDTG005008_P.pdf Master's Theses English Animo Repository Construction industry--Employees Construction industry--Safety measures Industrial safety Social and Behavioral Sciences |
